Born in Detroit 72 years ago and also spending many years in the textile industry ! I can under stand the Civil War Republicans defending their Confederate Chrisitian Values ! Huntin Fishing Prayin Hangin ! If in fact unions from Michigan were to Invade the South  and organize plants that produce Dr Pepper and Moonpies ! The price of these Goodies might increase and the folk’s at Toyota Mercedes and BMW  would need a increase in pay that is now comporable with the northern union members !  After wandering through the wood dressed out like a tree and killin a Baar-nothing like a refreshing Dr Pepper and a Moon Pie !

The moon pie was invented circa 1917 by the Chattanooga Bakery, USA.[2] According to the producers website, the product’s origin is undocumented. Earl Mitchell, Sr. was identified as the possible creator by his son. Mr. Mitchell reportedly conceived the moon pie as a snack for coal miners in Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.[3]. “RC Cola and a Moon Pie” is a common phrase in the southern states of the United States.

The exact date of Dr Pepper’s conception is unknown, but the U.S. Patent Office recognizes December 1, 1885 as the first time Dr Pepper was served. It was introduced nationally in the United States at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition as a new kind of cola, made with 23 flavors. Dr Pepper was far from being the first carbonated soft drink, or even the first soft drink in the United States for that matter. Vernors Ginger Ale and Hires Root Beer share the title for first American-born soft drink, both debuting in 1866. (However, through various mergers all three brands are now owned by Dr Pepper Snapple Group.) However, Dr Pepper’s introduction in 1885 did precede the introduction of Coca-Cola by one year.
